Real vs Fake Chrome Hearts: 5 Things to Check Before You Buy

Chrome Hearts is one of the most counterfeited brands in streetwear, and the quality of fakes has jumped sharply since 2023. Photo-only verification is no longer enough. Here are the five checks our authentication team runs on every Chrome Hearts piece that comes through our door — apply them in order before you spend.

1. Sterling silver stamps and weight

Every authentic Chrome Hearts silver accessory is stamped ©CH ⓘ .925 or a close variant. Fakes either miss the marking entirely, use the wrong font, or place it inconsistently. The two stronger tells are weight and finish:

• Real Chrome Hearts silver feels noticeably heavier than its size suggests. A real CH ring weighs roughly 2-3x what a costume equivalent weighs.
• The finish is hand-polished and warm. Fakes look chrome-bright or have a slightly grey, machine-finished cast.

If a silver piece feels suspiciously light, stop there. You don't need to check anything else.

2. Cross and dagger detailing

The CH cross motif is the brand's most-copied element and the one fakers get wrong most often. On authentic pieces:

• The cross arms are slightly tapered, not perfectly rectangular
• The center where the arms meet is raised, not flat
• The edges are softened — under a loupe you can see the hand-finishing marks

Fakes typically have arms that are too uniform, edges that are too sharp, and a center that sits flush with the rest of the cross. Hold a real piece next to a suspect piece in person and the difference jumps out immediately.

3. Stitching on T-shirts and hoodies

Chrome Hearts cotton garments are made in Los Angeles with thicker thread than you'd expect for a casual tee. Two specific checks:

• Side seams and hem. Stitching should be tight, even, and slightly recessed. Fakes often have visible thread tension issues or thinner thread.
• Print weight. Real CH prints have a heavy hand-feel — you can almost feel the design through the back of the fabric. Modern fakes have gotten better at this but most still feel lighter and crack within a few washes.

4. Cemetery cross and horseshoe placement

On graphic tees and longsleeves featuring back prints, placement matters. Real Chrome Hearts back graphics sit consistently 4-5 inches below the collar seam and are centered to within a quarter inch. Fakes often print too low, too high, or visibly off-center because the printing operation isn't using the same fixture every time. Lay the garment flat and measure.

5. Hangtags, dust bags, and packaging

This is the easiest check and the one most fakes still fail. Authentic Chrome Hearts pieces ship with:

• A black or cream cardstock hangtag with raised lettering — feel the print, don't just look at it
• A heavy cotton dust bag for jewelry and accessories, often with a drawstring
• A receipt or care card with batch information

Be skeptical of any piece that arrives without packaging, especially if the seller's explanation is "the previous owner threw it away." Real CH buyers keep the packaging because it materially affects resale value.

Where this falls apart: vintage Chrome Hearts

Pieces from the early 2000s and before often arrive without packaging legitimately, and stamps from that era can look different than current production. If you're buying anything that predates roughly 2010, the five checks above still apply to the actual piece — but lean harder on weight, finish, and stitching, and discount the packaging check.
